The Diverse Genomics of Algae

There's also this term pseudo -algae.
Why?
Because the term algae itself comprises of eukaryote algae and cyanobacteria, which are prokaryotes.
We have microalgae and also macroalgae.
Complex eh?
It took me quite some times to familiarize myself with those terms.

Macroalgae are basically seaweeds.

Microalgae on the other hand can be divide into 2 categories:
  • Eukaryotic microalgae
  • Cyanobacteria
Because algae has 2 different kingdoms in it, this is where the diversity lies.
For me its like comparing human with ferns, well in terms of genetic.

Say if you have this unknown species, and you don't know whether is it a eukaryote or prokaryote (cyanobacteria), what should you do?  I mean of course you would like to know the species or the genus name. You could go for 18S rDNA or 16S rDNA. Why? Because 18S rDNA is for the identification of eukaryotic cells, while 16S rDNA is the identification for prokaryotes. they are homolog.

Oh, by the way, algae can actually live anywhere but most of their members are aquatic majoring with marine algae and freshwater algae.

Why am I writing this?
Just to clear some thoughts.
This is how inorganize my mind is right now.

Till then.

Third Generation Biofuel

"Currently compiling review papers for 'easier' understanding of the research scope given.

Now playing - Still Into You by Paramore"

I wrote that a few months back when I first started my PhD journey. Well, based on the title, I think you can guess what my research is all about ;)

p/s: 2 post today, not bad eh?

An Old Friend

This is the laptop that I used when I first started my master's journey. Originally it belongs to my younger sister, but she switched to another laptop before departing to Australia. This laptop somehow broke down towards the end of my master's journey and had to be replaced by another laptop.

But I have a chance to use it back since it has already been fixed and unfortunately my newer laptop broke down. It brought  back memories  and I felt very encouraged to start this new jouney :)

Battling Dengue

Le hubs was diagnosed with dengue last Friday. The clinic did a serology test and confirmed positive for dengue. I was worried as we went to Klinik Kesihatan and his platlet dropped to even lower values. Since he was complaining about the pharyngitis that he has, I bought him ice cream, vitagens and strepsils. I forced himto eat ice cream the instant we were home. Cooked some porridge and ask to eat and to gargle some salt water.

The next day, his platlet was back to normal. Alhamdulillah. People kept asking me what did I gave him that in such a short period of time, he s back to normal. Well, I just made sure that he is hydrated and at least eat a little bit. Still made him crab soup on Saturday as he requested it but hasn't make any juice from the papaya leaves yet. Maybe later.

Oh well.
Goodbye dengue. See you never.

When I Was a Little Kid 1

When I was a little kid,

I thought that the sun can only shine its ray to only one place. When that place is cloudy, the sun went away and shines another place.

Little that I know, that the word cloudy itself meant that the sun was covered with clouds. Hence that name cloudy simply means that the sun did not go anywhere but hides behind the clouds.

When I was a little kid,

The water spilled out from an overfilled tub when I insert an object. I thought that the amount of water spilled was equal to the size of the object.

Little did I know the amount of water spilled was actually equal to the density of the object instead. More water was spilled if the object was heavier even if they have the same size.

Weekend Gateway

Just a short trip basically. My husband and I went to the beach, pantai Bagan Lalang. That's the nearest beach, yet just a stretch of the beach is opened for public.  On the right side is the Morib Goldcoast, while on the left side there is this coal mining area? If I'm not mistaken, forgot what my husband told me the mining area name is.

Guess what? We bought some crabs and kerangss (forgot what is the english name for kerang..haha). The lady asked us where are we from. She wanted to pack some ice along with those crabs and kerangs but we said that we planned to go home straight away and were okay with no ice.

On our way back, my husband gave me two choices of fruits. Either dragon fruit or durian. I let him picked and he bought some dragon fruits. So, tomorrow we'll have dragon fruit juice 😉

It felt good to go and see the nature. Serene.

Milk Everywhere

There is this one post that went viral in Facebook. About Anlene and the Jews. They said that the Jews were trying to manipulate is by selling low fat skim milk without 'added values'. 'Added values' here mean that it lacked vitamin D etc. Whole there is another brand, selling skim milk with 'fats' which gives us much more 'values' by drinking it. And these components dissolved in fats, so the low fat milk doesn't provides them.

Well, my dear, Anlene promotes calcium. And calcium only. Did they say that they gave you something else? No. They only sell you calcium for your bone. Yes, you need vitamin D for calcium absorption. But you can get it from other food that you consumed. Or buy taking supplement.

Let me give you an example. Ali wanted to open a stall selling rice. Selling only rice. Then at one fine day, came Abu. Abu wanted to buy rice with chicken. But Ali only sells rice. Abu got mad and start blaming Ali for not selling chicken with rice. The question is, is Ali at fault here? Of course not, he said that he only sells rice. If Abu wanted to buy rice and chicken, he should have gone to other stall and not blaming Ali for not selling chicken with rice. Same goes yo Anlene and other milk products.

Why is Anmum has different milk for pregnant women, lactating women and children? Because each one of them needed different things for their body it is as simple as that. Whomever started that post should've really think first before posting. I know that some of the Jews do have bad intentions but blaming them for all the things that you could think on your own is not that cool, isn't it? At the end of the day, the choice is in your hand. So choose. Wisely.
